Paladin of the Sea - Cylantros Azurius

from $3.00

“A paladin bound to the Daughter of the Sea, Inderimaeth. Despite his somewhat stoic appearance, Cylantros embodies the joviality of his patron, though like her, his moods can quickly sour and become tempestuous. Cyalntros was the only one among his order who agreed to join the Gilded Seahorse on Baradin’s request. Though he knows the journey will likely end in his death, a death in Inderimaeth’s embrace is the best that he could ask for.

Within the cloistered Temple of the Roaring Tide in Sundestra, Cylantros was raised, an orphan given to the temple as a babe to be raised in its service. Inderimaeth’s temples, however, are not as strict and stringent as their counterparts across the pantheon, with its practitioners encouraging emotionality and free-spirited will within their youth. By thirteen summers they are given leave to pursue their own aspirations, should they so desire, but few do, for they have found a home and a place of belonging in the embrace of their brethren and the clergy who act as parental figures to them. Cylantros was no exception, though he had always caught the eye of the clergymen in Roaring Tide for his exceptional athletic abilities, more than his adherence to Inderimaeth’s doctrine.

Many of her Paladin’s are thus picked this way; for brawn rather than brain. Though Cylantros was not a dullard, he would be wasted as a scribe or priest. Instead he would be sent on voyages across the seas in search of cultists of Quorenderi in foul fathoms beneath the waves and above. When Dragonblight took its hold on Sundestra, the Temple of the Roaring Tide was one of the few sanctuaries to not be swallowed by the blight, a fact Cylantros was grateful for on his return, having been in the Katarn Sea during the crisis. He was relieved to return to it relatively intact, though many of his brethren had perished defending the city and attempting to aid those fleeing it. After this he was committed to aiding the Church of the Tharameni in recovering as many shards of Namneri’s Chalice as he could from beneath the seas of Tharador.

Since then he has sat idly in the temple, fearing to leave it lest peril fall upon Sundestra again. Though he has done his best to aid in rebuilding, his heart still sinks at the memory of the fleshy spire that sprouted from Sundestra’s centre, and the omens of evil that prowled its streets. So when the impetuous Captain Baradin Blackbeard approached the temple and offered gold and glory to any of Inderimaeth’s Clergy who would join him in a seemingly doomed voyage, Cylantros volunteered himself. For too long he had lingered in the ruins of his home, and he wished to be at peace in the sea again. Even if he found his death there, he could at least be with his kin again.”
